I would like to offer, until a more official one is developed, my own unofficial Mission Statement, Statement of Intent & Purpose or whatever you might title it with comments and description[s] included;
When I 1st started this league, an all competition' format was in. And with leagues as well as other sports in a competitive structure it was accepted to be as it was. As a player I could feel the pressure to perform. I don't feel it was bad. I just acknowledge it was there. Our league had great recognition and identity during this year. But players come in various perspectives. The leagues went through a successful season, but as stated players differ. Gradually different players began to illuminate our ranks. Their perspective downplayed the competitive nature in favor of balancing it with keeping it enjoyable and not as rules oriented as a competitive league structure calls for.
That brings us to our current operation. It is the league executive’s intent to make the effort to address the competitive issues but keep either competition or pleasure and enjoyment from ruling the league format. Our weekly play is not done by officially sanctioned tournament rules play even though I might like to. We do defer to the basic rules at times that are referred to by the ACO as acceptable but not necessarily the last word.
In conclusion, we focus our efforts to offer clean, respectable, backyard style cornhole using our team/player and schedule structure. While we are running a team/player competition we recognize that there is cause to encourage accuracy of scoring, recording etc. since our league does recognize both team and individual accomplishments. We also feel that players with reasonable discrepancies need to be heard or the enemy of the league, frustration and dissatisfaction can take over a player's attitude[s]. Some are easier to please than others. But that tends to go with the territory. Although I have been one of the executives for some time, I have always tried to keep it open to you the player for how it should run and with my best judgment sift out and make sense of what it is we as a league want to do. Keeping a hand on things is a daunting task at times. Certainly the league can and will go on if a player leaves. But, unless the player is a constant agitator, we are disappointed in ourselves if they part with our league for a reason other than hardship.
I hope this gives you some idea of how we intend to operate. Thank you for taking the time to read this and hopefully you will understand that I am not turning my cheek to what individuals want. But am trying as a whole to make this of a competitive nature and still keep the FUN FACTOR there.
Respectfully
Terry L Anspaugh.
League President
